Small businesses can certainly benefit from website development. There is a good possibility that when you landed on this site that you had entered something along the lines of “Las Vegas website development” into a search engine. The fact that you entered Las Vegas would’ve helped the search engine direct you to a local company. In other words if you only entered “website development” you probably would have ended up with a huge number of results for companies that were not located anywhere near Las Vegas. By using the same logic you can choose keywords which will help local customers find your business.

Using the correct keywords is a crucial part of search engine optimization strategy. It is well known that using relevant keywords is the only way that any search engine is going to find you. However what many people do not understand is that using keywords too many times can in fact be a bad thing. For years sneaky tactics had been practiced by website owners that had a short-term benefit but eventually caused bad problems for them. At the time, placing keywords in text that was invisible to the viewer, using irrelevant keywords to falsely rank high, and using backdoor pages to keyword stuff was a common practice among ethically questionable website owners.

At the time these sort of tricks worked but eventually the major search engines Yahoo, Bing, and Google, etc. caught on to these tactics. At this point in time attempting search engine optimization using these methods is causing the websites which employ them to be de-indexed. Unfortunately this can on occasion include websites who employed some of these practices unintentionally. Even if your site is completely legitimate in every other way if you happen to appear to be keyword stuffing by repeating your keywords too many times it can have a negative effect on your search engine optimization. The key to optimum keyword utilization is to achieve the perfect keyword density.

Your website should ideally appear to be completely relevant to the keyword which you are targeting. This must be presented in a way that does not appear to be spam. According to most experts a keyword density of around two to 4% is perfect. The total number of words in your article, blog post, or webpage divided by the number of times a keyword or phrase is included in the text equals keyword density.

In other words let’s assume that your article contains a total of 500 words. In said article you include your keyword phrase 10 times. This is a keyword density of 2%. As far as Google is concerned that particular keyword density would be assumed to be relevant without being spam. Let’s say on the other hand you included your keyword 30 times in the same situation. This would give you an overall density of 6%. There would be a large potential for the article to be flagged as spam by the search engines. So as in many other things, less is often more. Just be sure to stick between two and 4% and you should do well.

Someone recently asked me what would be the easiest way to describe how to effectively use search engine optimization on their website, in layman’s terms. This a great topic because not everyone is necessarily familiar with all of the facets of search engine optimization therefore there has to be a starting point. You’ll definitely want at least to know by now the meaning of keyword management. If you don’t it’s a good idea to look it up and become familiar with that particular concept.

One thing that is very important about search engine optimization and cannot be stressed enough is the fact that content is above all else one of the most important factors that will allow your website to be visible. Not only that but it will also drive traffic and return visits to your site which is how your company can benefit from SEO. A good thing to keep in mind is that nowadays search engines can tell the difference between actual content in something that is just designed to fill space. In other words just throwing random keywords into nonsensical phrases will not help you rank on the search engines. If you want a good example of phrases that don’t make any sense you can take a look at most of the junk mail spam that’s originating from a foreign country or look at listings on Craig’s list that are posted by someone who is speaking English as their second language. While they do understand what words get the people’s attention they have no idea of how to place them correctly and grammatically into the same sentence.

When you approach search engine optimization you want to make sure that your syntax is constructed in the same manner in which you would speak. This will help the search engines to separate you from people who are using the aforementioned technique. In other words rather than just putting random words together the content on your website should make sense.

A couple of other things that you can do to maximize your search engine optimization is to create a linking campaign for all of the posts that you make on your website. For the most part you want to get as many in-textual links with the correct keywords that will link back to your site with at least two thirds of those pointing interior. Using social networks and buzz content on Web 2.0 properties will also help you to gain social media links.

Search engine optimization continues to be a major factor in deciding whether or not a website succeeds in drawing traffic. It also continues to evolve as the major search engines learn how to perform more efficiently and return relevant results.

First of all we must determine what the most important search terms are for your particular targert audience. Upon doing so, we can then proceed to organize these terms into clusters which share a common theme and then create a “keyword map” for your site.

While this sounds simple in theory, researching keywords and developing a strategy to implement them for search engine optimization can be a very chalenging task.

As we mentioned earlier, successful search engine optimization isn’t about rankings but rather it is about getting relevant results for your business. As long as people are typing words into search engines, the keyword strategy which you choose will greatly determine how successful you are.

Social media continues to increase as a viable marketing tool for any online business.  While many social media sites such as Myspace and Facebook were initially popular amongst a younger demographic, others tend to work on the contrary.  For example, Twitter initially was more popular with adults.  Eventually however it has achieved popularity with younger users.  This became especially true last year as celebrity tweets became popular and the mainstream media began to discuss the service.  Interestingly, at this time the fastest growing segment for Twitter users falls in the 23 to 25-year-old age range.

Obviously it’s important to know the demographics relating to your individual business.  If you’re service or product is not designed for people who fall at least approximately into that age range then perhaps there will be another social media marketing strategy for you that would be far more effective than using Twitter. At this time one of the the most popular social media sites in existence is Facebook.

An estimated 56% of shoppers who use social media websites have chosen to friend, follow, or subscribe to an online retailer who uses a social networking site such as Facebook.  In addition to twitter and my space, youtube is now also gaining popularity as a marketing engine capable of allowing visitors to be notified of updates by “following” accounts which offer services or products which they are interested in.  This is an amazing testament illustrating the interest customers have in social engagement and an obvious opportunity for creating loyalty via social media.

Large companies are also able to demonstrate the sizeability of their customer base by publicly displaying their number of followers.  The part of the equation of course which needs to be determined is how exactly a company is able to motivate a customer or client to follow them.  The better you know your customer the easier it is to retain their loyalty and offer additional products or services which they are likely to desire.  Taking a step beyond social media it is also possible for a website developer to include features in a website which allows visitors to convey their feedback to the website owner.  Paying attention to what your customers ask for is certainly one of the most effective ways to be certain that they don’t have to look elsewhere when it comes time to make a decision on where to spend their money.

Website design trends tend to change over time based on the availability of new technology. Despite that fact we continue to see more white space on websites recently. At one point it may have seemed that website designers were attempting to utilize every bit of space on a page, but at some point they realized that the layout became so busy that the main accomplishment of this type of design was to confuse the viewer. When we look at larger more successful corporate websites we notice a great deal of white space and a consistent focal point. This makes it very obvious to the viewer what the page is about and enables easier navigation.

When considering what type of website design would be most appropriate for you it’s not necessary to imitate larger websites such as Google, Amazon, or Craigslist but it is a good idea to take a lesson from their successes. While a certain amount of flash animation can definitely make the page more interesting, overdoing it can simply lead to confusion.

Another trend in website design currently is larger typography. Using fonts as big as and beyond 36 pixels, designers are able to create websites that are more visually appealing, more consistent, and appear to be trustworthier. Website design agencies in particular are moving toward the usage of larger typography in order to communicate the most important messages of their websites. While the larger fonts limit the amount of information that can be displayed on the page it certainly enhances and reinforces the message behind this text.

Media blocks are also beginning to proliferate website design on an increasing scale. With more and more people gaining access to broadband Internet it is now much easier for browsers to view these types of elements without requiring as much time for the page to load. This enables a better presentation of product information without requiring the viewer to invest as much effort in navigating the site as was previously. A website design that includes media blocks increases the potential for customers to simply sit back and enjoy the show rather than putting forth much effort in exploring the website.

There’s also a tendency for many website designs to mimic the appearance of a magazine cover. The arrangements of the page, illustrations, and the above-mentioned larger typography contribute to giving the web page and appearance similar to a magazine. This last element contains a certain amount of irony since increased usage of the Internet has reduced the circulation of many nationally published magazines.

Website design is crucial to the success of your online presence. When you think about popular sites in existence, like yahoo or ebay for example, you will notice that they share many similarities that we can learn from. One of the most important of these similarities is the return factor. Offering your customers a reason to return to your website will assure exposure to your existing products and/or services and the opportunity to demonstrate new content as it develops. The above mentioned sites offer their users compelling content. In both cases the sites are easy to navigate and make it possible for their customers to quickly find what they are looking for. Many additional tools such as user reviews and refined search capabilties help them to continue to retain a massive customer base.

One of the most important and proven elements to a successful website is visual appeal. No matter what it is that you want to communicate, it should be done in a manner that is pleasant to the senses. All too many would be internet marketers have learned the hard way that too many colors, sounds and valueless distractions tend to drive traffic away rather than leading their customers to the checkout page.

Color schemes play a big part in the visual appeal of your site. Most companies who already use a logo for there storefront or business card design choose to incorporate the same colors into their websites. Unfortunately, there are situations where this is not necessarily the best option. Colors that do not contrast well on a computer monitor can be an issue. There are also combinations that may not necessarily communicate properly the image that you wish to portray in relation to the type of business that you are involved in. When considering the color scheme for your website, what, where, and how much can make a huge difference in the way that your target audience percieves you. When in doubt, consult your designer.

Organization also makes a very important distinction between a professionally designed website and a poor quality bargain basement design. The technical name for the organization of your site is “information architecture.” This describes the manner in which the information on yor site is arranged. Typically, sites are arranged based on a hierarchical structure. This means that the site is divided into sections, sub-sections, and so on. Depending on the the amount of content that your site contains, this factor becomes increasingy more important for navigation. Making a site look good is one thing. Providing the ease of use that an effective architecture allows is a different yet equally important factor. How will your site be arranged? By product category? By price? Choose wisely. Your business depends on it.

It can be far less costly to use your website to reach people rather than following the traditional path using glossy publications. However one of the big differences that is absolutely necessary that people know that your website exists. You can also use e-mail for an extremely effective method of advertising. One advantage of using online e-mail campaigns is that they are virtually cost free. Other than the time invested in composing your advertising there are no resources, paper, postage or other costs otherwise associated with physically mailing information. It is important however that you prevent your online campaign from being blacklisted by being accused of sending spam. Another benefit to online campaigns is that when they are received by e-mail many recipients tend to forward them thus creating a viral marketing campaign with no additional effort on your part.

It’s also much faster to use an online campaign since delivery is immediate. The web also allows immediate response time to current events and changes in your website’s services and/or products.

Most importantly, Internet communities allow you to target an audience based on more than just geography. Internet interest groups can allow you to focus specifically on one particular niche. Your online campaign can also advertise on other sites, which have interests and audiences that are similar to yours. The messages which you place on the sites can be designed based on the particular nuances of the groups who may be interested in some of your campaigns specific themes.

Another great benefit of online campaigns is its ease of integration. Unlike other types of media it is easy to tie all of the benefits of online campaigns together since many web applications are designed to work together.

Bringing online campaigns, custom software, and mobile applications together has never been easier.

As technology continues to evolve and we moved progressively faster into the information age we are also able to eliminate a great deal of waste generated by traditional mailing campaigns. Through online campaigns we are able not only to become more profitable but also to preserve resources. This gives you the benefit of increasing revenue while being environmentally and politically correct. The only potential downside to online campaigns is lack of exposure. This makes it all the more important to utilize search engine optimization to its fullest potential. If you’re not already doing so, consider implementing search engine optimization for your website.
